In a survey for their World’s Best Awards, Travel + Leisure have found three of the world’s top 10 Islands are right on our doorstep in Asia.
Coming in at the coveted number one spot in the World’s Best Island rankings is Palawan Island, an Archipelago in the Philipines. This is the Island’s third year taking out the number one spot in the competition.
The information gathered to inform the winners is meticulously crowdsourced through travellers, asking them to rank islands by their activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness, and overall value.

So what’s so great about Palawan Island?
While all the islands in the top 10 are miraculously beautiful, Palawan was described by travellers as “rustic,” “romantic,” “affordable,” and “relaxing.”
Palawan itself is made up of one large main island and surrounded by 1,800 islets.
“With its verdant mountains, a five-mile-long underground river, limestone caves, and spectacular scuba diving, its appeal is as clear as its turquoise waters,” explains Travel + Leisure.
“Travellers raved about the warm, convivial locals who celebrate Filipino culture with float parades and costumes during the annual Baragatan festival. They also loved the cuisine, which is heavy on fresh seafood and a veritable melting pot of international flavours.”
