Want to travel the world? You’re going to have to make a few sacrifices

This 23-year-old has it down... but no one said it would be easy.

Birdie Wilkins is only 23-years-old and has already visited over 19 countries, more than most of us have in our whole lives.

She chronicles her adventures on her blog and her Instagram account, bikini shots from luxury resorts in the Maldives and even Bali, which for someone based in the UK is a quiet a long (and rather expensive) journey.

She’s not a celebrity, and she doesn’t come from a famous family. She’s just like you and me… so how does she do it?

There’s no witchcraft at play here – just a lot of hard work and sacrifice, with the London based fashion writer revealing she lives mostly off tinned fish, rice and vegetables, walks instead of catching public transport and even given up most of her social life.

Speaking to MailOnline Travel, Birdie explains she has never given her sacrifices a second thought.

“I don’t think twice about restricting my diet to things such as canned fish – if you love something as much as I do travelling, the sacrifices you make don’t even cross your mind.”

Mastering the art of budgeting, Birdie spends just $15 ($24.57) on food in a week by always selecting home brand supermarket goods and not eating out.

The globetrotter also has a few tips for bringing your own travel dreams to life, including booking trips well ahead of time and keep your eyes peeled for deals all year around.

“You don’t have to save for months – if you really want something, you can make it happen,” she told the Mail Online.

“You’d never imagine it was possible to stay at some of the resorts I do on my wages, but I make it happen. I’m a live-in-the-moment kind of girl and, so far, it’s taking me far.”

“My family and friends think I’m mad for restricting myself as much as I do, but I’d like to think sharing my experiences will inspire others to stop being complacent and take the leap.”
