Kelly Clarke, a young Sydney woman and recently graduated nurse has died while on her honeymoon in Fiji.
24-year-old Clarke was suffering from extreme pneumonia, which was originally diagnosed as typhoid. She passed away shortly before she could be medically evacuated.
The young woman has left behind a distraught, loving family and her 28-year-old husband, Chase Clarke.
Chase Clarke revealed that he spoke with Kelly in the hospital before she passed away where she confessed to him she was scared she would die.
“I told her I loved her, we’re going to get out of here, everything’s going to be okay,” Clarke has told media.
The body of Kelly Clarke will be flown home today. The cost to get the young woman’s body home is expected to be over $60,000 and will be covered by a combination of insurance and funds from the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Clarke’s sister started a GoFundMe page when her sister was first admitted to the hospital, asking for monetary help to bring Clarke home to be treated. Sadly, this opportunity never came.
The page has raised over $50,000 while will be donated to Kelly’s grieving husband.
Kelley Clarke had been a registered nurse at Westmead Children’s Hospital.
“Kelly was a dedicated nurse who loved working with children and will be greatly missed by her colleagues and patients,” a hospital spokesperson shared.
The family must now begin the painful job of planning their daughter’s funeral.
