When a London man named Nigel Fitton was preparing to move into a retirement home, he packed up and took with him the beloved houseplants his wife had left behind after she passed away.

Since her death, Fitton has been making sure to water the plants daily, because that’s exactly what his late wife, Phedre, would have wanted him to do.

But unbeknownst to him, the plants were made from plastic! Apparently he had a very cheeky wife who wanted to him to have a laugh after she was gone.

Now, since their daughter, Antonia Nicol, has shared the cute story on Twitter, her tweet has gone viral — and a lot more people are getting a kick out of her mom’s sweet joke.

“Before my mum passed away, she gave my dad strict instructions to water the plants in the bathroom,” she wrote.

“He’s been religiously watering them and keeping them alive. They look so amazing he decided to take them to his new home, only to discover they are plastic! Can hear my mum chuckling.”

We’re not the only ones who were moved by the tweet; other Twitter users chimed and commented on her mother’s clever prank.

“I was actually welling up til the punchline,” wrote Twitter user Sue Marsh. To which Nicol replied, “Honestly, we were all so proud of my dad being so dedicated to caring for her plants. Gave him something to do.”

“OMG! What a legend! Sorry to hear of your loss,” wrote another. “Thank you,” Nicol replied. “She was an absolute legend for sure. My parents fell in love when they were 16 years old and she died aged 69. She had to give my dad something to do.”

Mrs. Phedre Fitton was a legend, indeed. Too funny!
