The first step is signing up and joining as a ‘sitter’ or an ‘owner’ for an annual membership fee of $130.00. Next, you build your profile and explain why you’re there – and then you can start looking for a place to sit or a person to look after your home and pet.
After each sitting experience, users can review each other, and those reviews are public, meaning transparency on both sides of the community.
What do house sitters and pet sitters do?
Before writing about TrustedHousesitters, I decided to try my hand at a bit of pet sitting through the site to reflect first hand on what house and pet sitters do.
After setting up my profile, I was matched with the delightful Russian Blue cat, Tycho (who happens to have way more Instagram followers than me) and his parents.
As soon as dates were confirmed I had a Skype meeting with Tycho’s mum who explained how everything works and introduced me to her gorgeous fur baby. This is perfect if you won’t get the opportunity to meet face-to-face, or just in case you want to feel a little more with the person coming into your home and space.
From there, I had the luxury of enjoying a weekend break with a new furry friend and aside from feeding, a bit of cleaning and cuddles, there wasn’t much more required of me as a pet sitter. Tycho’s mum and dad meanwhile could enjoy a weekend away safe in the knowledge that their baby was being well cared for.
