Crown Princess Mary of Denmark stepped out in her favourite Alexander McQueen blazer today and gave us all a lesson in recycling fashion.

She slipped into the jacket to give an opening speech at CFS +, a digital summit focusing on sustainable fashion – a cause Mary has very much embraced.

Sharing photos from the event on the Danish Royal Family Instagram page, the accompanying caption shared an insight into Mary’s dedication to the sustainable fashion movement.

“The Crown Princess, who is the patron of both the Copenhagen Fashion Summit and the Global Fashion Agenda, has since 2009 participated in all Copenhagen Fashion Summit / CFS +,” it read.

“The summit brings together key stakeholders from across the global fashion industry, experts, NGOs, media and politicians to discuss sustainable solutions within the fashion industry.”

Wanting to set a good example, the Australian-born royal wore an Alexander McQueen jacket she’s been recycling through her wardrobe quite a lot recently.

Mary has been spotted in the elegant burgundy blazer so many times in the last 12 months that we’ve almost lost count.

She donned it over a crisp white button-down blouse to attend a UEFA Euro 2020 Championship match at Wembley Stadium in the UK in July.

Just a few weeks earlier she had sported it over a midi-length white dress to attend another match in Denmark, and again in June to launch a Mary Foundation initiative.

She even wore it back in 2020 for a WWF event, styling it that time over a high-neck black shirt and matching black trousers.

Mary wore the blazer to a football game in July.

It’s clear that the Crown Princess adores the piece, and we can understand why – it’s tailored to perfection and the deep red hue looks immaculate against her fair skin.

But Mary’s decision to re-wear the McQueen blazer time and time again also reflects her refreshing take on royal fashion.

The 49-year-old is a huge believer in recycling dresses, blazers and everything in between rather than wearing styles once and then discarding them.

It all plays into the sustainable fashion movement, which Mary has been vocally supporting since 2009.

As the seasons change here in Australia, there’s no better time to invest in more sustainable fashion options.
