With Mother’s Day coming up (and to keep myself from going crazy in isolation) I decided to give mum a wardrobe makeover.
I thought it’d be a fun activity for us to do together and helpful to reorganise her wardrobe. Plus, Mum had a ball being my model for a day!
I styled three looks for events and situations suitable for my mother – when she’s out and about, running her business, or staying comfy at home.

Look 1: Relaxed, at-home goddess
My mum Regina kindly offered her modelling expertise… along with our sleepy pup Tosia! Here she models the first look, which I’ve called ‘at-home goddess’.

It’s all about that relaxed, effortless look. I’ve opted for an oversized shirt and pair back with a wide-leg pant. Team that with a flowing coat and slip-on mules.
My mum loves the oversize look, but worries it may overwhelm her small frame. I pointed out the trick is to finding the perfect midrise pant – look for a higher waistline and a hemline that sits just above the ankle.
I think the warm apricot tone is really lovely and compliments mum’s complexion. The tie-around the jacket can cinch her in a bit, if she feels she needs a bit more shape.

Mum models my second look, for busy mums who are (usually) always on the go.
(Image: AWW)I jazzed up mum’s run-around look with a classic black pant, stripe top and on-trend sneakers.
Not only will this sneaker sock create an illusion of longer, leaner legs, but it will also give mum the comfort to run around town.
Mum loved the sneakers and thought they were really comfortable. I know she’s a fan of tights around the house, but worries they’re too tight for when she’s out and about.
The trick is to team with an oversized top that will cover the mid tummy and thigh area.
Complete this look with a lightweight trench which she’ll be able to wear for seasons to come.

Word got out about our shoot… and our second furry friend, Lola, showed up! Mum was happy to share the spotlight as she modelled my working mum look.
(Image: AWW)Keep the look sophisticated with a crisp white shirt and check trousers.
It can be hard to convince a parent that the blazer doesn’t have to match the pant… That said, mum had loads of fun playing around with the different prints and textures with this look.
My best tip is to keep to three colours in a look, and to stick to similar tones when styling. But have fun with it! This winter I’m ditching black for a neutral colour palette.
