Did Melania Trump just make a subtle nod to Meghan Markle with her dress?

The two ladies are fashion icons regardless, that's for sure.

When it comes to style, Melania Trump knows how to make an entrance. Take Tuesday night for example.

The US President and First Lady attended a formal dinner hosted by the US Ambassador to the UK and his wife along with Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, but we couldn’t keep our eyes off FLOTUS’ stunning red gown.

As she arrived at the US Ambassador’s official London residence Winfield House, Melania stepped out in a red floor-length gown with attached cape sleeves and a bead-embroidered bodice worth a staggering £5,610. That’s AUD 10,191 if you were wondering.

The gown was designed by Clare Waight Keller at Givenchy. And if that name sounds familiar it’s because she has another very famous and fashionable client, Duchess Meghan Markle. Could this have been a subtle nod to the American-born royal?

Clare Waight Keller is one of Duchess Meghan’s favourite designers and the royal has worn many of her designs in the past, most famously at her fairytale wedding to Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex even honoured the designer back in December to present her with the British Womenswear Designer of the Year award.

And it’s clear that Clare is a fan of the former Suits star too.

Speaking to Grazia, the fashion designer said, “I think the magic of that being so intimate and so personal for so long felt incredibly special because it evolved from a designer and client relationship very quickly into a friendship, in that we’ve got such a comfort level with one another and shared so many special moments. I suppose we have a sort of unbreakable bond in that sense, when you’ve experienced something very few people have together, so it goes deep.”

The dress mishap comes hot off the heels of Melania’s husband Donald Trump calling the Duchess of Sussex “nasty.”

During an interview, the US President was told that the former Meghan Markle vowed that she would move to Canada if he was elected and called him a “divisive mysoginist.”

“I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty,” he stated.

Trump later denied saying this statement ahead of his royal visit via Twitter, writing: “I never called Meghan Markle “nasty.

“Made up by the Fake News Media, and they got caught cold! Will @CNN, @nytimes and others apologize? Doubt it!”

Despite meeting with the Queen, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, the Trumps will not meet Duchess Meghan.

This isn’t the first royal Melania Trump has mimicked on her state visit to the UK.

Eagle-eyed royal fans were quick to notice that the US First Lady looked like she’d gone back to power-dressing like they did in the eighties when she wore a white and navy blue Dolce & Gabbana ensemble with a matching hat that looked very reminiscent of the late Princess Diana.

The former Princess of Wales wore a very similar look at the VJ Day commemorations back in 1995.
