It's becoming a new royal wardrobe staple.

It’s no secret that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark are royal trend setters, but can they bring an “outdated” accessory back into style?

In recent weeks both royal ladies have been photographed in contrast two-tone pumps, the kind of shoe we rarely see on runways these days.

Kate was spotted in a black and white pair by Alessandra Rich with a tall heel not once but twice during her July appearances at Wimbledon.

In fact, the duchess loves the style so much she also owns another near-identical pair in tan and black, which she wore to a memorial service in June.

For more casual occasions, like the polo game she attended with Prince William in July, she opts for a flat style slingback in taupe and black by Camilla Elphick.

And she’s not the only royal obsessed with the contrast style.

Princess Mary donned the famous Chanel Two-Tone Slingback in beige and black during several outings in Denmark in July.

A staple of the late 1950s and 1960s, the contrast toe was typically paired with a singback style made popular by the fashion house Chanel.

Coco Chanel herself was ahead of the trend, wearing the shoes as early as 1937, but the shoes had almost entirely fallen out of style… until now.

Now it appears the style is making a sartorial comeback as royals like Kate and Mary prove the classic shoe can work with a modern wardrobe.

The slingback style is more elegant than a classic pump, while the two-tone element adds a pop of contrast to an otherwise simple style.

Catherine is also a fan of beige and black styles.

With the northern hemisphere heading towards the cooler months, we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of these shoes at upcoming royal events.

Fortunately for us, this royal trend is easy to replicate on a budget for those who can’t afford the pricey Chanel versions.
