Duchess Catherine and Duchess Meghan may have the glam squads of our dreams, and their classic clothing choices continue to inspire Aussie women but there is one royal who comes out on top.

Can you guess who?

According to its database of more than 11 million monthly unique users, eBay found that Aussie shoppers were searching for Duchess Catherine three times more than Duchess Meghan… that’s a whopping 178 percent more!

eBay Australia’s Chief Marketing Officer Julie Nestor says, “From her timeless wardrobe staples such as tartan coats to formal dress ensembles during royal engagements, Duchess Kate’s standout style moments well and truly put her on the fashion throne.”

And ever since she stepped onto the world stage as Prince William’s girlfriend, the Duchess of Cambridge has secured plenty of fashion fans all over the world.

“Kate is a global fashion phenomenon, cleverly juggling designer outfits we can all lust over with clothes we can pick up on the High Street,” says Claudia Joseph, author of How to Dress Like a Princess.

Despite it being considerably warmer in Australia than it is in the duchess’s native Britain, it’s her coats that have given us Aussies the ultimate style inspiration.

After she appeared at the traditional Christmas morning church service in a deep red coat, sales for coats in the same colour increased by 89 percent in the Christmas sales and after stepping out in one of her favourite Alexander McQueen tartan coats in Dundee, sales of green coats went up by 85 percent just days later.

Even when she wore a very Meghan-esque Smythe grey blazer in October, the number of grey blazers sold on eBay skyrocketed by a massive 226 per cent. Talk about the Kate effect!

And it’s not just her coats we want to copy.

Sales of lilac dresses skyrocketed to 815 percent after she wore one in October for Mental Health Awareness Month and red midi skirts went up by 46 percent after she donned a plaid skirt by Emilia Wickstead to a Kensington Palace Christmas party.

While the Duchess of Cambridge is a surefire style icon, it seems like Aussies want to emulate the Duchess of Sussex’s style from her head to her toes… literally.

Sales of hair bun doughnuts increased by 72 percent just a day after Meghan wore the perfect ballerina bun at a meeting with London’s Association of Commonwealth Universities in January and after she popped on a pair of espadrille heels when she was at Bondi Beach on the royal tour, sales of the shoe style went up massively…by 107 percent to be exact!

Duchess Meghan’s chic professional look has influenced plenty of Aussies as well with sales of black boatneck dresses and blazers going up, but her brighter and bolder looks have also had an effect Down Under.

When she and Duchess Catherine attended the Women’s Singles Finals at Wimbledon last year, Duchess Meghan wore a striped button-down shirt with white wide-leg trousers, both by Ralph Lauren, and paired the look with a wide-brim Panama hat. Just days later, blue and white stripes were up by 77 percent!

One of our favourite maternity looks on the Duchess of Sussex was an Oscar de la Renta black dress with birds and flowers print that she wore in February and sales of black dresses with flower prints increased by a whopping 194 percent just a day after she was seen wearing it.
