Tonight is well and truly Leonardo DiCaprio’s night! 22 years after his first ever Oscar nomination, Leo has FINALLY won an Academy Award for Best Actor in The Revenant.

Room star Brie Larson scored the Best Actress Oscar while Alicia Vikander won one of the first gongs of the night for Best Supporting Actress in The Danish Girl.

“Wow,” Alicia gushed as she stood on stage clutching the shiny gold statue. “Thank you so much the Academy for this incredible recognition.”

In the Best Supporting Actor category, Mark Rylance won big thanks to his role in Bridge of Spies.

Meanwhile Mad Max: Fury Road, which is directed by Aussie George Miller, has completely cleaned up bagging Oscars for Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

The much loved flick Inside Out won the Best Animated Feature Film while Spotlight won Best Picture.

FINALLY! This is Leonardo DiCaprio’s first Oscar in six nominations. “Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species. We need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. Let us not take this planet for granted, I do not take tonight for granted,” the passionate environmentalist said during his acceptance speech for Best Actor in The Revenant.

Leo’s first ever nomination was way back in 1994 for Best Supporting Actor in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. “Mr Scorsese [thank you] for teaching me so much about the cinematic art form. To my parents, none of this would be possible without you. To my friends, I love you dearly you know who you are,” Leo added in his moving speech.

Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes win big for the Best Original Song thanks to their smash hit Writing’s On The Wall from Spectre.

“I actually can’t breath right now! I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen that said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar, if this is the case, even if it isn’t the case, I want to dedicate this to LGBT community all around the world. I stand here tonight as a proud gay man and I hope we can all stand together as equals one day,” Sam said.

“I share this with our fabulous crew and cast. Thank you so much for your support and belief in me and Eddie [Redmayne], thank you for being the best acting partner.
