When far-shun goes too far.

At this year’s Met Gala celebrities brought their most fashion-forward looks to the red carpet to delight us all.

This year’s theme is ‘Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between‘ which for non-fashion folk basically means Japanese-style avant garde, inspired by the label of renowned designer Rei Kawakubo.

It’s only the second time the costume institute gala has honoured a living designer (the first being Yves Saint Laurent in 1983) and the A-list have really brought their A-game in celebration…

Katy Perry

Katy? Is that you under there? The 2017 Met Gala co-host Katy Perry fully embraces this year’s the theme in a scarlet John Galliano for Maison Margiela gown complete with veil.

Add in a shiny chrome headpiece and you have yourself one very interesting look.

Jaden Smith

Jaden Smith literally turned heads when he arrived clutching his recently shorn-off dreadlocks (which he shaved off three weeks ago mind you, meaning he’s kept them all this time), smiling through his sparkly grill.

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner wore a dress (if you can call it that?) made out of 85,000 crystals by La Perla Haute Couture Collection and didn’t leave much to the imagination – at all.

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham rocked up in a very puffy Elizabeth Kennedy tartan print gown which she teamed with chunky boots. So much fabric! So much tulle!

Helen Lasichanh and Pharrell Williams

Helen and hubby Pharrell both wore actual outfits from the label Commes des Garcons so they were certainly on theme, we’ll give them that.

Madonna

No, Madonna hasn’t got food stuck in her teeth, that would be her shiny grill you’re looking at. The queen of pop looks lethal with her metal chompers, but we love her use of army surplus materials.

Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid looks reptilian with her jumpsuit-combined-with-boots outfit. Let’s hope she steers clear of drinking any liquids tonight, if you get what we mean…

Rihanna

Unofficial Met Gala queen Rihanna shut down the red carpet in this Comme des Garçons outfit, which was fresh off the runway. The sculptural design looks like something you might find in the gallery itself, so let’s hope she doesn’t get mistaken for an exhibit.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy and hubby John pair off in monochrome this year, and let’s just all agree that Chrissy knows her way around a frilly and feathery neckline.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is not afraid to try a new look, and this outfit (could you say it’s a dress?) is certainly a look (as in, we don’t know where to look!). Surprisingly it’s from the brand H&M, so it might actually be affordable (just in case you were looking for something to wear this Saturday night).

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

If you thought Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen left boho in 2007, you were wrong. Their I-just-raided-grandma’s-wardrobe look is still as chic as ever, as they obviously live by the style mantra more is more.

Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles has always been a fashion rule breaker, but this might just be her best look yet. As if the puffy coat, train and voluminous sleeves weren’t enough, she added in a pair of matching puffy pants too. At least she’ll be cosy this year.

Kate Hudson

Kate walked the red carpet in Stella McCartney, but we bet you didn’t even notice her dress because of her glowing, white top knot.

Cara Delevingne

Cara painted her shaved head metallic silver (there’s a sentence we never thought we would write), and matched it to her Chanel suit, also silver. She also added silver body glitter, just in case there wasn’t enough silver going on.
