2009 Golden Globes

Kate Winslet stole the show with two motion picture drama awards: Best actress for Revolutionary Road, directed by her husband Sam Mendes, and best supporting actress for The Reader.

An emotional Kate asked to be excused for her flustered state: “Forgive me, I have a habit of not winning things.”

Both nominees, Brad and Ange missed out on best actor and actress statuettes this year. But somehow they always manage to be the coolest couple wherever they are.

Ange was one of many actresses draped in silver/metallic fabric. What do you think? Rate this dress, and others ahead, using the star-scale on the left, below the picture.

30 Rock took out the award for Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy. Pictured are stars Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer, Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan.

Alec and Tina took out the best actor and actress in a comedy/musical TV series. In her speech, Tina addressed her internet critics in a manner befitting the comedienne of the moment… She told them to “suck it!”

The 59-year-old rocker showed he’s still got it, with his award-winning song written for the film, The Wrestler.

Best actress-nominated Meryl lost out to Kate Winslet… but who didn’t?

She’s come a long way since playing the little girl in The Nanny, playing a supporting role in the very grown up Globe-nominated TV comedy series Californication alongside David Duchovny.

Now for some more shades of precious metals — this time from pop singer Beyoncé.

A vision in gold, Megan went to town on the red carpet, striking pose after carefully choreographed pose.

Aussie Rachel, star of TV’s Brothers and Sisters, followed the gold trend with gusto. A little too much, perhaps?

One lady who didn’t lose out to Kate Winslet was Laura, who won Best Performance by an Actress for the mini-series John Adams. Her dress was also in the gold viscinity.

And now for the white dresses — and with those come the unavoidable comparisons with wedding cakes…

…and bed ruffles.

And in navy silk was Debra, also nominated for best actress for her TV comedy series The Starter Wife.
