“My hair just was not what it used to be.”
Kristin Davis opens up about suffering from hair loss

Although she is best known for her immaculately dressed TV character Charlotte York on the cult show Sex and the City, Kristin Davis has recently revealed her “Charlotte hair” didn’t always come so easily.

After she noticed her hair had essentially turned to straw, Kristin turned to the professionals to help her counter potential hair thinning and hair loss. She checked into “hair rehab” for treatment to restore her strands to their former condition.

“My hair was always very difficult hair, which no-one believes when I tell them,” Kristin told industry publication WWD.

“I hadn’t been worrying about it […] but when I tried to do something or had to go somewhere I was like, ‘where is my hair?'”

“It was very fine, like it had gone away, there just was hardly any hair there,” Kristen continued, stating she noticed her pony tail had become a lot smaller (a common way to tell if you are experiencing hair loss).

“It’s always been not quite that easy, but because I had a lot of hair the professionals could help me make it look nice. It’s not like I woke up and I had Charlotte hair.”

Kristen’s hair stylist Luke O’Connor also noticed the change in her hair, and recommended she try the volumising hair care brand, Volaire. It wasn’t long until Kristin signed on as the global ambassador of the brand.

Finally, she had found a product line that cared for her “thin and super damaged” hair, according to her Instagram post.

Kristen’s experience of hair thinning and hair loss is not uncommon for women to experience, and can be caused by a number of factors.

“Hair loss is normal throughout our lives. We lose about 100 strands per day on average, but anything more than that and it could be temporary or hereditary hair loss,” says dermatologist Dr Eleni Yiasemides.

“The number-one cause of permanent hair loss is related to a hereditary condition which in women, is called female pattern hair loss. Temporary shedding is called telogen effluvium and can be triggered after you have a baby, stopping the oral contraceptive pill, major stress and thyroid problems. This kind of hair loss will self-correct on its own and the hair will grow back.”
