How much makeup do women use?

Each morning women dive into their over-stuffed makeup bags, filled with hair and beauty products that we can’t get enough of. But how many of these creams and other concoctions actually see the light of day?

While women are buying more makeup than ever, they may not be caking on as much makeup as we think.

A US study of women aged 18 to 25 found most women only use up to three products before they leave the house.

The nationwide survey, conducted by website StumbleUpon found 67 per cent of young women said they used only zero to three products in their morning hair and beauty routine.

Only 20 per cent said they used four to seven products, and even fewer, ten per cent said they used eight to 12.

A tiny three per cent owned up to gussying up with more than 12 products on an average day.

The study also found a difference in beauty habits between ages with younger women more likely to use more products.

Almost a quarter of 21-year-olds used eight to 12 products each morning compared to just five per cent of 24-year-olds.

Once women got to 25, the overwhelming majority, 72 per cent, cut their routine to use a maximum of three products.

The report contrasts with a recent study that showed young women put up to 500 chemicals on their body each day, and another that suggested we spend 172 hours a year applying makeup.
