After ending 2016 on a very sombre note, Zara Phillips, now Tindall, and her husband Mike, face heartbreak doing what they love: enjoying one of their favourite sports.
And where better to immerse themselves in fun-filled activities than right here in Australia.
The couple, who were married in 2011 in Edinburgh, Scotland, were all smiles at the Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo on the Gold Coast on Sunday, January 8, strolling through the crowds hand in hand.
Former Olympian equestrian Zara competed in the polo, tumbling off her horse but dusting herself off quickly to recover – something her husband, a Magic Millions ambassador, joked with the Gold Coast Bulletin about.
“That’s her will to win. She’s tough, she bounces,” he laughed.
Just days before Christmas, Zara, 35, and 38-year-old Mike, who are already parents to almost-three-year-old Mia, discovered that Zara had miscarried their second child – a baby due to be born in Britain’s spring.
A spokesperson for the pair made the announcement on Christmas Eve.
“Very sadly, Zara and Mike Tindall have lost their baby,” the spokesperson said.
“At this difficult time, we ask that everyone respects their privacy.”
