While Queen Elizabeth II will be taking time to mourn the love of her life, Prince Philip, it doesn’t appear that she’ll take a more permanent step away from the throne any time soon.
Some may wonder if the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh would have Her Majesty considering abdicating the throne to live out the remainder of her days in peace, but royal watchers believe that’s far from the case.
“I can assure you the queen will not abdicate,” royal historian Hugo Vickers tells 7News. “There is every indication the Queen is in extremely good health and with luck she will continue to be our queen for as long as possible.”
Per The Guardian, another reason for the Monarch to hold her title comes down to her faith and pact with God.
“If you are an anointed Queen you do not abdicate,” Hugo told the publication.
Despite also preparing to mark her 95th birthday at the end of this month, Her Majesty looks to be in great health to continue her reign as the longest-ruling monarch in history.
“Neither her physical nor her mental health are waning,” an insider recently confirmed to PEOPLE before adding that her majesty is “well” and “in good fettle”.
Yet another milestone her majesty likely wishes to see out as the Monarch is her Platinum Jubilee which will be marked next year.
“It would be completely illogical to abdicate just before that extraordinary anniversary,” Hugo explained. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate
The news of the Duke’s passing broke on Friday evening (Australian time) with an official statement coming from The Palace.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the statement read.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
On November 20, 2020, The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh celebrated 73 years of marriage.
