Why Meghan Markle isn’t Prince Louis’ godmother

On July 9th, Prince William and Duchess Catherine celebrated a very special event – their son’s christening.

It was the first time the world got to see young Prince Louis since his birth on April 23 – and the royal family did not disappoint.

While Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip opted to skip the festivities, avid royal watchers did get to see all the royal key players step out at Chapel Royal in St. James’ Palace.

The Cambridges arrive for Prince Louis’ christening.

The day also saw Kensington Palace announce who had been bestowed the honour of being Prince Louis’ godparent.

The godfathers include: Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly and Harry Aubrey-Fletcher.

While the godmothers are: Lady Laura Meade, Hannah Carter and Lucy Middleton.

Two noteable names that didn’t make the cut are Prince Harry and the newest member of the British Royal Family Meghan Markle.

Here’s why Meghan and Harry didn’t make the godparent cut.

So why didn’t Meghan and Prince Harry score a spot on the highly coveted godparent list?

Because they’re already young Prince Louis’ Aunty and Uncle – and that’s a hugely important role.

Royal expert Robert Johnson explained during Prince George’s christening that immediate family members are unlikely candidates for the godparent spot since they’ll already be in the the child’s life.

And it should be noted that none of Wills and Kate’s siblings have been made godparents to any of their children.

One thing is certain, Louis is one loved baby!
