As news of the newborn baby girl breaks all over the world, bets are flying for what name Will and Kate will choose for their newborn Princess.
After going the traditional route for George, most believe another traditional, royal name is in order.
The favourites remain Charlotte or Alice for a girl.
Despite the fact royals are supposedly discouraged from naming children after immediate family members; Elizabeth and Diana have been hotly discussed.
Should the Duke and Duchess want to go a more historical route, the most popular names for British princesses by commonality are Mary (there have been 31 Princess Mary’s), Louise (26), and Victoria (25), other favourites include Charlotte, Alexandra (and Alexandrina), Augusta, Elizabeth, Caroline, Sophie (and Sophia).
Speculation that the couple could offer a nod to Australia and opt for a name like Matilda, has also arisen.
The name-expert who correctly predicted “George Alexander Louis” has put forth Caroline or Alexandra as the potential names.
Whilst Royal biographer, Andrew Morton, is hoping for a Princess Elizabeth Diana, who would be called Diana.
Betting sites have revealed punters are placing most of their bets on classics Elizabeth, Charlotte and Victoria. The most unusual bets include Khaleesi (yes, like Game of Thrones), Caledonia and Beebey for a princess.
The very last betting odds offered for the name, however, stood at:
Alice 6/4
Charlotte 3/1
Elizabeth 6/1
Victoria 10/1
Diana 14/1
Alexandra 16/1
Catherine 25/1
Frances 25/1
Mary 25/1
The name of a new royal babe is usually announced between 48 and 72 hours after the birth, so if all goes well, the public can expect a name by Monday at the latest!
