In a statement released via Kensington Palace, the parents of two confirmed their daughter’s moniker as Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
And just like her big brother George, her official royal title has followed the same naming pattern as the adorable one-year-old – that is, Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.
In a tweet Kensington Palace announced the new royal’s name, writing: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.”
They added: “The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.”
The name holds significant meaning for the growing family, with middle name Diana paying tribute to William’s beloved mother Diana, The Princess of Wales who died in 1997.
It seems Princess Charlotte’s middle names are a touching ode to the important women that raised her father.
The newborn’s first middle name, Elizabeth was chosen after her great grandmother and Britain’s longest serving Monarch, Queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth is also Kate’s middle name and the name of the late Queen Mother.
The new Princess’ first name, Charlotte, was one of the punters favourites and follows tradition of naming new royals after their ancestors.
Meanwhile The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have voiced their gratitude for the public’s overwhelming support following the birth of their second child.
“The Duke and Duchess are hugely grateful for the messages of congratulations they have received from people all over the world,” William and Kate said via a spokesman.
“It means a great deal to them that so many people have celebrated the arrival of their new daughter.”
The new Princess and fourth in line to the throne was born on May 2 in London at 8:34am weighing in at a healthy 8lbs 3oz.
Little Charlotte has not been short on visitors, with grandparents Charles, Camilla, Michael and Carole Middleton all beaming with joy as they drove through the gates of Kensington Palace to meet their new grandchild.
