But there is one catch.

The show’s creator Peter Morgan confirmed the new season will shine a light on Prince Philip, rather than Queen Elizabeth II.

This will be an affair to remember.

Without giving too much away, Peter said during a Royal Television Society event that the Duke was in fact, the perfect muse.

“I find him extraordinarily interesting—his childhood, again, you couldn’t make it up. The soul of season two is about his complexity,” and that his rumoured affairs will be in the spotlight this season.

Peter went on to say that the new season “continues exactly where we left off, so the years that it travels are 1956 and 1964”.

After nearly seven decades… There must be many a story from a Prince and his Queen.

Don’t worry Crown fans! The original cast are staying.

Claire Foy won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Her Majesty. Her co-captain, Matt Smith steps into the shoes of Prince Philip.

“It takes Claire Foy and Matt Smith to the outer edge of where we can take them, with their ages, if we took it any further we would have to think about recasting,” Peter explained.

“There is no commitment of it going further at the moment, we’re just focusing on this season up until 1964.”

Peter clearly loves the world of drama, teasing his audience when he remarked, “Doesn’t everyone in Britain know he had an affair?”

It has been alleged that Prince Philip’s conducted extra-marital activity during his 1956 world tour, when the Prince was touring on the royal yacht Britannia.

At the time, outlets claimed he’d taken a mystery women along with him.

Buckingham Palace has not officially commented on these wild claims, but Prince Philip has aptly conveyed,“How could I? I’ve had a detective in my company, night and day, since 1947.”

Under Her Majesty’s watchful eye

The Crown season two is expected to be released on Netflix later this year.
