New photos have emerged from the set of The Crown‘s upcoming fifth season and fans have been left breathless by the shots.

The pictures, which started doing the rounds online yesterday, show Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West styled and costumed as Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

Posing on the deck of a yacht, The Crown stars appear to be recreating a moment from an infamous trip their real-life counterparts took to Italy in 1991.

The photos themselves are striking and look like something straight out of a nostalgic royal photo shoot, but it was Elizabeth that really left fans in awe.

Dressed in a colourful floral frock inspired by an outfit Diana wore on a later 1992 trip to Seville, the Australian star looked like the spitting image of the late Princess of Wales.

Her hair has been trimmed into Diana’s iconic fluffy style, but the similarities don’t stop there.

Posing with co-star Dominic West, Elizabeth appears to have taken on many of Diana’s most recognisable mannerisms.

From the way she tucks her chin down in the photos, to her gentle smile and posture, it’s clear that Elizabeth has really embodied the character for The Crown’s fifth season.

Fans have already commented on how much the 30-year-old looks like the late Princess of Wales, from her big, blue eyes to her elegant bone structure.

The Crown afficionados went into a frenzy in August when Netflix released some of the first photos of Elizabeth in the role, many commenting that they couldn’t believe how accurate the casting has been for the show.

The show’s fifth season is set to premiere in November 2022 and will cover much of the breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage.

If the new pictures are anything to go by, the season will include the royal couple’s infamous 1991 trip to Italy with sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

The real-life holiday marked the Prince and Princess of Wales’ tenth 11th anniversary, though Diana had already spoken publicly about being unhappy in her marriage.

She and Charles would announce their separation just a few months after the trip, though their divorce wasn’t finalised until 1996.

It’s understood that the new season of The Crown will delve into the details of their split, divorce and may even include Diana’s tragic 1997 death.

The Princess of Wales was killed in a shocking car crash in a Paris tunnel on August 31, 1997 and her death sent shockwaves around the world.
