It’s been a big year for Sarah Ferguson, who saw her youngest daughter Princess Eugenie marry her longtime love Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel in October.
But as for her own love life, the Duchess of York has given a definitive answer on whether she would re-marry her ex-husband, Prince Andrew amidst other details in a fascinating new tell-all interview.
When asked by the Daily Mail if she still loves her ex-husband, Fergie revealed, “We both say it. We are completely compatible. Our bywords are communication, compromise and compassion.”
Sarah and Prince Andrew are still remarkably close despite divorcing in 1996. Not only are they and their two daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie a united family, but the former husband and wife still reside together at Royal Lodge, Windsor.
In fact, the Duchess of York says she is not divorced from him but rather divorced “to” him.
“July 23, 1986 [the Duke and Duchess’ wedding day] was the happiest day of my life. Andrew is the best man I know. What he does for Britain is incredible; no one knows how hard he works for his country,” she explained to The Daily Mail in their exclusive sit-down chat.
“My duty is to him. I am so proud of him. I stand by him and always will. The way we are is our fairy tale.”
However when she was asked if she would ever re-marry the seventh in line to the throne, Sarah revealed that we shouldn’t be expecting another royal wedding any time soon.
“So many people have asked me that, but we’re so happy with the way we are right now. We enjoy each other’s company; we allow each other to blossom. I know it sounds like a fairy tale but that’s the way we are,” the 59-year-old said, finally putting to rest speculation of a romance reboot.

The Duchess of York also revealed the sweet reason behind the emerald green colour she chose to wear on her daughter’s wedding day and the vintage Manolo Blahnik handbag she brought to accessorise.
“Mum had carried the handbag at my wedding to Prince Andrew and the admission tickets were still in it. They were green — which was why I wore green on the day,” she said.
Sarah Ferguson was the ultimate proud mother of the bride at Eugenie and Jack’s royal wedding, and even broke royal protocol by hugging a woman in the crowd, revealed to be her late mother’s friend, Jessie Huberty.
“I’d gone to live with her in New York for six weeks when I was 19. My father had said, ‘You’re too spoilt. You have to work your way round America’ — so I stayed with Jessie and got a job cleaning lavatories to earn enough to get a Greyhound bus ticket.”
Sarah’s mother, Susan Barrantes died in 1998, at just 61 years old, in a car crash in Argentina, where she lived with her second husband.
Despite the happiness of Princess Eugenie’s wedding day, the Duchess thought of absent friends and family as well.
Major Ronald Ferguson, Sarah’s father passed away in 2003 and Sarah also referenced the late Princess Diana but admitted “she’s with me all the time.”
“What I miss most is her tinkling laughter,” the Duchess reminisced.
“Diana was my best friend and the funniest person I knew. She had such timing and wit. It was a total joy to be with her because we just laughed and enjoyed life so much, and I know she would have loved the wedding.”
