If you’ve ever thought about what it would be like being part of the royal family, chances are you’ll assume it’s a pretty easy life.

Butlers on call, a cupboard full of jewels and afternoons in very fancy gardens drinking tea and scones (on a silver platter, might we add) would tend to be the typical assumption.

But what if we told you there was a whole other side to royal life that was actually relatively, well… normal?

Yes, just because some are born (or married) into the blue-blooded elite doesn’t necessarily mean their life paths are set in stone.

We all know the likes of Duchess Meghan and Grace Kelly boasted successful careers before they married royalty, but there are quite a few more who’ve done the same, and continue to do so.

What’s more, it’s not only glitzy glamorous jobs some of them continue to work hard on behind the scenes.

Here, we look at some of the unexpected real life jobs the royals that you never knew about.

Gabriella Windsor

Gabriella Windsor, who made headlines in 2019 after her glamorous wedding to Thomas Kingston at St George’s Chapel, Windsor has just revealed her side hustle – as a singer and songwriter!

Speaking to HELLO! exclusively, the royal explained she had written and recorded two songs, the proceeds of which will help not for profit organisation, Playing for Change Foundation. “I’ve always loved music, but never imagined I would become involved with it like this – releasing my own songs,” she told the publication.

The 39-year-old is even making known her preferred name as a singer, Ella. As for her first two track titles? Out of Blue and Bam Bam – both of which are available on Apple, Spotify and other music streaming services.

Sophie Winkleman

Married to a lord, and with a whirlwind entertainment career to boot, Sophie Winkleman has quite the profile. The 40-year-old has acted in well-known films including Narnia’s Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

She’s also made various TV guest appearances, including on Two and a Half Men, and Four Weddings and a Funeral. The actress could give Duchess Meghan a run for her money with a portfolio like that!

Prince Nikolai

He might be Danish royalty, but 23-year-old Prince Nikolai boasts quite the portfolio on his own having worked as a professional model for a number of years. Walking in the likes of Dior and Burberry, he’s quite the one to watch (quite literally).

Sophie Wessex

She now works as a full-time royal, but before joining the royal fold by marrying the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, Sophie of Wessex was a PR pro, opening up her very own agency named RJH Public Relations in 1996. Talk about a go-getter.

Amelia Windsor

Another royal, another model. Yes, Lady Amelia Windsor is a part-time model, and like Nikolai, has walked in some pretty well known shows including Dior and Dolce & Gabbana.

Princess Beatrice

While she’s one of the most familiar faced royals next to the likes of Wills and Harry, Princess Beatrice has an entire life outside of the regal fold. She currently works for global software company Afiniti, where she works as their vice president of partnerships and strategy.

Princess Eugenie

Like her elder sister, Princess Eugenie is also paving her own career path outside of the royal family. She current works as a a director of London art gallery, Hauser & Wirth.

Lady Rose Gilman

The daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Lady Rose Gilman has pursued a career path in the arts and entertainment industry. Like Eugenie, Rose has worked as an art assistant, but has also worked on some very well known films, including the not-so-little franchise Harry Potter.
