It’s the best kind of royal fever when there’s a new babe in town, and we’ve got a serious case.
Adorable little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor made his highly anticipated, and slightly overdue, arrival into the world at 5.26am on Monday the 6th May, 2019 and we can not get enough of the new bub and his loving parents.
As we scour the web for even the most minute details of his birth and his life so far we’re having to make do with the stats that every new parent so proudly delivers – the birth weight and health report.
Sharing a picture announcing the exciting news on Monday, the statement from Sussex Royal, the pair’s official Instagram account, read: “We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.”
The statement continued: “The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”
It’s true, 7lbs 3oz (3.3 kilos) is a healthy weight. The average birth weight for those of European heritage is 7lbs 7oz, but how does little Archie compare to other royals on the scales?

Prince George
The much anticipated arrival of little Prince George was an exciting time. When William and Kate’s son made his entrance on the 22nd July, 2013 he weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 6oz (3.8 kilos).
Reports claim that Duchess Catherine was in labour for 12 hours, opting for no pain medication to bring her little Prince into the world.

Princess Charlotte
When Prince George’s little sister made her arrival on the 2nd May, 2015 she was not too far behind him on the scales. Sweet Princess Charlotte had a birth weight of 8lbs 3oz (3.7 kilos).
But it was to be a different story when her little brother came along.

Prince Louis
When the third child of Prince William and Duchess Catherine came into the world on the 23rd April 2018, he was a record breaker! Reports say that Prince Louis‘ birthweight of 8lbs 7oz (3.8 kilos) made him the heaviest heir to the throne in more than a century.
However that doesn’t make him the heaviest royal baby. Read on to see who took that title.

Prince William
Breaking the long-held tradition of birthing in Buckingham Palace, Princess Diana brought her first child with Prince Charles into the world on the 21st June 1982 at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital after an induction. Unlike his own children, Prince William was a more modest weight, coming in at 7lb 1.5oz (3.2 kilos).

Prince Harry
As a new dad himself, Prince Harry would have some idea of the anticipation felt by his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana as they awaited his arrival back in 1984. When he did make his entrance on the 15th September he proved to be the lightest on this baby weight list, tipping the scales at a sweet little 6lbs 14oz (3.1 kilos).

Prince Charles
Let’s go back one more generation – the first one where birth weight numbers were ever announced – and look at the new grandfather, Prince Charles. The proud father of Prince William and Prince Harry was not about to break any records with his modest birthweight of 7lbs 6oz (3.3 kilos) when he made his arrival on 14th November 1948.
Born at via C-section at Buckingham Palace, when his mum, then Princess Elizabeth was just 22 years old. Enduring a tough 30 hour labour prior to the surgery, the now Queen was on her own as her husband, Prince Philip, was reportedly playing squash instead!

But the winner is …
When Zara Tindall, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II and cousin to Prince William and Prince Harry, gave birth to her second child – a baby girl – it was time for a new birthweight record to be set.
Born on the 18th June 2018, little Lina Tindall became the heaviest royal baby to be born in more than 100 years, at 9lb 3oz (4.1 kilos)! A record that was previously held by her cousin, Savannah Phillips – the daughter of Zara’s brother, Peter Phillips – who was 8lbs 8oz (3.85 kilos) at her arrival in 2010.
However it’s not all whoppers in that branch of the royal family. Zara’s first child, Lina’s big sister, Mia was just 7lbs 12oz (3.5 kilos) when she was born on the 17 January 2014.
