Peering over Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris’ shoulders, Her Majesty puts on a big smile and joins in the picture to create one sovereign selfie.
It gave the Commonwealth Games a distinctly royal flavour for the Australian women’s hockey team.
“Ahhh The Queen photobombed our selfie!! #royalty #sheevensmiled #amazing,” Jayde wrote on her Instagram account.
The “epic” photobomb must have given the Hockeyroos a special edge as they went on to trounce Malaysia 4-0 in their opening match at the Commonwealth Games.
Taylor later wrote on her Twitter, “@TheEllenShow I think our selfie tops yours! #queenselfie #queenphotobomb #hockeyroos #callme.”
The photograph has gone viral, even making the cover of The Times newspaper.
Hockeyroo Anna Flanagan also posted a photograph to Instagram, saying “What a day!! 4-0 win over Malaysia… And we just met the QUEEN!!! #queenselfie #roovolution @thecgf.”
