One does not try to defy protocol and tradition upon meeting Her Majesty the Queen, but going by our reigning Monarch’s latest move, she mightn’t mind too much.
Indeed in a picture that has swept the internet and concurrently made us all ogle with utter glee, Queen Elizabeth has posed for a photo in the most un-Queen-ish way, and we are living for it it.
To mark the release of a new book written by the Queen’s former assistant Angela Kelly, The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe is set to detail her Majesty’s life like never before.
Ahead of the book’s launch, a new picture was released of the Queen herself. In it, she is seen standing in the most informal pose we’ve ever seen her indulge.
And boy, it’s a spectacle to behold – have we ever seen Her Majesty with her hands in her pockets?!
In the tell-all book, there’s an anecdote that helps to explain the somewhat casual nature of the new picture.
Indeed Kelly reveals that the reigning monarch once confided in her that she had a “secret wish” to be photographed informally, as opposed to the numerous poised and posed portraits she’s already banked.
With this in mind, Kelly, who was present when the picture was taken, says she suggested the Queen put her hands in her pockets.
“The Queen looked at me in amazement as I asked whether she knew the potential implications of the photographs… She didn’t take long to answer: Yes, she would do it and, yes, she was sure.”
In another glorious reveal, Kelly explained that the photographer, Barry Jeffery had been surprised by the nature of the portrait, but the Queen was adamant for it to happen.
She added that the Queen had even told him: “‘No Barry, this is how we’re going to do it, just keep the camera rolling.’ And we were off.”
And off they absolutely were – apparently, the 93-year-old monarch struck up a series of poses, “slipping her hands in and out of her pockets and placing them onto her hips, mimicking the stances of a professional model.”
Kelly added that Elizabeth was a “natural”.
Why are we not surprised? The Queen definitely has a hint of the best kind of sass!
The new book has a number of additional golden nuggets of info that we never knew we needed.
Another brilliant anecdote reveals that the Queen uses gin and water to keep her diamonds sparkly.
In another comedic reveal, Kelly explained a time when the Queen jokingly told her she was “sacked” after she played a friendly April Fools joke on her.
The writer states the Queen had explained gleefully: “‘Do you know what she has just done to me? Angela has had me!’ and I just couldn’t stop giggling.”
With this in mind, if you weren’t already aware that the Queen is certifiably sassy, then we’re pretty sure this would convince you!
