Queen Elizabeth has made royal history – without even planning to! – it has been revealed.
In a royal first, the Palace revealed the extent of the changes to the Queen’s life on Wednesday as the world goes into quarantine as a way to fight the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus.
Taking to the official Royal Family Twitter account on March 25th, the Palace shared an update on how the Queen had adapted her daily schedule as she remains under quarantine.
Along with moving from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle ahead of the country’s full lockdown, the monarch has had to make some other tweaks to her daily routine in line with working remotely.
In a picture shared to Twitter, the Queen is seen speaking to British Prime Minster Boris Johnson by telephone – a rare and poignant moment that proves just how unique these circumstances are.
“Her Majesty – pictured this evening at Windsor Castle – has held a weekly Audience with her Prime Minister throughout her reign,” the Palace explained.
Fans were excited to see the unique insight into the Queen’s quarantined life.
And while some simple admired the picture itself, others brought their own comedic twist to the scenario.
“Imagine if they let @TheEllenShow @BarackObam and @rickygervais join the call!” One royal fan suggested alongside a picture of the five iconic faces on a faux call together.
Meanwhile, another Twitter user also saw the lighter side to the image, commenting: “If that isn’t a Caption Competition photo, then I don’t know what is, ma’am.”
Another fan simply reasoned: “They are showing good sense and hopefully showing the country how to do things other than in person. Good for them xx.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves!
The royals have had a turbulent couple of days after it was revealed Prince Charles himself had contracted Coronavirus.
A statement was released by Clarence House on Wednesday evening (AEDT), explaining that the Prince was “displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health”.
It is understood Charles, 71, last saw his 93-year-old mother two weeks ago.
Buckingham Palace also released a detailed statement to update worried fans on the Queen’s health.
“Her Majesty The Queen remains in good health. The Queen last saw The Prince of Wales briefly on the morning of 12th March and is following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare.”
While it’s unclear as to how long the royals will be remaining under lockdown amid the Coronavirus crisis, it’s reassuring to know that both are in good health for now.
And at the very least, the Queen is already looking comfortable partaking in this new working from home way of life!
