Queen Elizabeth bans Kate Middleton from wearing short skirts in Australia

The Queen has reportedly ordered the Duchess of Cambridge to lengthen her hemlines on her upcoming tour of Australia.

Kate’s dress sense is famously demure, but she does enjoy showing off her slim pins, frequently wearing skirts several inches shorter than would normally be considered proper for someone in the royal family.

The public loves Kate’s style – anything she wears sells out within minutes – but the 87-year-old monarch has other ideas, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The Queen is reportedly planning a “significant regal makeover” for Kate, which will include longer hemlines and more diamonds and tiaras. Kate will also be encouraged to swap her high street favourites for couture pieces.

The Queen has tasked her personal dresser Angela Kelly with helping Kate prepare for the trip and has requested the Duchess take a selection of statement jewellery and gemstones from the monarch’s personal collection.

“Angela has been asked to start selecting jewels ahead of the trip,” a palace source told the newspaper.

“She knows most of the pieces in the Queen’s private collection. Her understanding is crucial because this trip will be about Kate appearing more Royal than ever – you can expect to see a lot more tiaras and the Queen will be watching closely.”

Kate will require up to four outfits a day for her three-and-a-half week Australian tour, and her favourite designers Alexander McQueen and Alice Temperley are already reportedly working on bespoke gowns and day dresses.
