A new tele-movie about the fairytale romance between a young Tasmanian woman called Mary Donaldson and Denmark’s Crown Prince is being shot in Sydney.
However, the moment when the couple met at the Slip Inn in the year 2000 has been shot elsewhere, because the Slip Inn is now a Mexican restaurant.
When Mary met Fred, it was all decked out for the Sydney Olympics, and Sydney was a very different looking town, festooned with flags and overflowing with goodwill.
The Daily Telegraph has photographs of the re-created scene, in which actor Emma Hamilton — who plays the lead role in Mary, The Making Of A Princess — gets the royal party started by suggesting a round of margaritas for her new European friends.
Explaining the script process, Hamilton told News Corp: “nobody really knows what happened that night, except the players, including Mary and Fred, so we’ve put together how a night might progress when you meet someone you really click with.”
