The new royal portrait proves that Princess Mary will soon be wearing the Queen’s crown.
From Crown Princess Mary’s diamond and ruby-encrusted tiara to a special brooch gifted from her mother-in-law, these newly released images prove she has achieved what no other foreigner has ever been able to do – officially take the place of the Queen of Denmark!
In an unprecedented move, Mary and Frederik have replaced Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and her husband His Royal Highness Prince Henrik in a series of official New Year portraits released to the Danish public.
Princess Mary begins the New Year looking stunning
The pair were decked out in official regalia – Mary in her blue sash, diamond-star accessory and the crown handed down to her by Fred’s grandmother Queen Ingrid, and Frederik in his military dress and impressive collection of medals.
The images were mysteriously released by Fredensborg Palace with no explanation for the switch, leaving royal watchers to claim it is only a matter of weeks now before Mary and Frederik will take the throne.
The clearly symbolic move by the palace follows what has been several months of transition already, with Margrethe’s full support – not least her revealing New Year’s message to Denmark about trusting others and believing in new opportunities.
Princess Mary’s official anniversary portraits released
It’s expected an official announcement will be made immediately after the Queen’s 75th birthday celebrations, which start on March 25 and continue until her actual birthday, April 16.
Read all about the exciting expected royal announcement and how Princess Mary is preparing for it only in Woman’s Day, on sale 9th February.
