As far as Australian icons go, it doesn’t get more notable than Crown Princess Mary and singer songwriter Nick Cave.
And in case you’re scratching your head wondering why on earth these two would ever be in the same room together, well, it turns out they share quite a strong passion in music.
In a series of new photos posted via the Danish Royal Family’s Instagram account, Crown Princess Mary and her husband Crown Prince Frederik can be seen catching up with the legendary singer and his wife, Susie Cave, as they enjoy a private tour of the Stranger Than Kindness: The Nick Cave Exhibition at the Black Diamond gallery in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.
“In June, Australian musician Nick Cave, in collaboration with The Royal Library and Arts Centre Melbourne, an exhibition at The Black Diamond in Copenhagen. Today, the musician had the opportunity to show the Crown Prince and Crown Princess around the eight art installations that depict the musician’s upbringing and career,” the Danish Royal Family explained in the post.
“The photos show the Crown Prince and Crown Princess together with Nick Cave and his wife Susie Cave in one of the exhibition’s installations, which is a reconstruction of Nick Cave’s office, which includes the musician’s private interiors, books and photographs,” it continued.
“Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince and Crown Princess were subsequently offered ‘Afternoon tea’ in the library’s Salon. The exhibition can be experienced until and including 13 February 2021.”
Indeed such an outing all but confirms that perhaps the Tasmanian-born is a huge Nick Cave fan. And with an incredible back-catalogue of hits such as Into My Arms, Red Right Hand and Straight To You, no one can really blame her.
According to Nick Cave’s website, the Stranger Than Kindness exhibition is a “journey into the creative world of musician and storyteller Nick Cave.”
“The exhibition brings together large scale installations and original atmospheric soundscapes with more than 300 objects from Cave’s own collection, the Nick Cave archive at Arts Centre Melbourne, the collections of Royal Danish Library and a number of private lenders,” it states.

“It presents more than 50 years of Cave’s life, work and inspiration in a spatial, multi-sensory exploration of his many real and imagined universes.”
Putting her best foot forward for the intimate evening, the Tasmanian-born royal cut an elegant figure in a grey blouse, chequered trousers and black boots.
Like Crown Princess Mary, the powerful voice behind Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds has been living the ex-pat life since he left Australia in the 90s. The 63-year-old has lived in London, Berlin, and São Paulo, but has since settled in Brighton, England.
