Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has been given a very prestigious honour fit for, well, a Queen!
In the highest of honours, the Australian born royal has been given the right to fill in for Queen Margrethe when she is abroad or unavailable for engagements.
In an official statement released on the Danish Royal social media accounts, it said that Mary will “from now on, be able to attend to The Queen’s duties as head of state when The Queen is prevented from doing so, for example during a stay abroad.”
“Under The State Council, the Crown Princess, in the presence of the Queen, His Royal Majesty, the Crown Prince and the Government, signed the necessary declaration to comply with the constitution.”
Alongside Mary, her husband Prince Frederick and relatives, Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte can also take on the responsibilities.
“Today, The Queen’s duties can be handled by The Crown Prince as regent or by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte as regents,” the Danish Royal House said.

On Wednesday, Princess Mary, forever the style icon, stepped out at the official opening of the Danish Parliament.
Dressed in a pink coat with a matching pillbox hat, the future Queen of Denmark looked just like former US First Lady Jackie Kennedy, who wore a similar outfit back in 1963.
Along with her husband Crown Prince Frederik, her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe and the Queen’s sister, Princess Benedikte, Crown Princess Mary was all smiles as she arrived at the chambers at Christiansborg Palace, in Copenhagen.
According to the Danish Constitution, Parliament must open on the first Tuesday in October, and the first item on the agenda is always to elect the chairman and deputy chairmen of the parliament.
The annual tradition is usually attended by the Danish royal family’s senior members. There, they listen to the Prime Minister’s speech, that marks the beginning of the new political year.
Mary is due to make an official visit to Morocco in the coming days where she will no doubt make another fashionable appearance.
