Indeed the Tasmanian-local turned Danish Royal has celebrated all kinds of Christmases – from the scorching hot Southern Hemisphere to below zero European white outs.

Spending time in Australia
Our very own Aussie princess tries to come home to Australia almost every year to see her family for Christmas.
2023 is no different, as the Tasmanian-born royal was recently down under! While she was here, Mary kept a relatively low profile with only a few photos surfacing of the princess and her family.
One photo we were given is of the Crown Princess with her two youngest, Vincent and Josephine, climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge together! Mary took her kids on the ultimate Aussie tourist adventure and we love her for it.
In 2017, the Danish royals also spent Christmas Down Under, and even hit Palm Beach in New South Wales where they played soccer and swam in the water.
The family also enjoyed a day sailing through Sydney harbour. At the time, the Danish royals looked slightly different to their usual formal ensembles, wearing casual red branded T-shirts, khaki shorts and caps.

As the founder and patron of her own charity, Mary Foundation, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark releases a solo Christmas card photo every year.
The photo is always accompanied by a message about the year that has passed, along with the Princess giving her words of advice and wisdom for the new year.
“We need each other if we are to succeed. And that’s not only true in the working world and for those of us who are working to combat social isolation. This is true for all of us. Humans need humans,” the Christmas card message read this year.
“The transition to the new year is always an opportunity to pause and appreciate everything that has happened during the year. […] Warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”.

The Danish royal family have some Christmas traditions that they religiously follow every single year.
One key tradition is that they always spend Christmas Day at Marselisborg Palace in Aarhus. The Danish royals have been doing this since Queen Margrethe became the monarch in 1972 and this year will be no different.
Crown Princess Mary, Crown Prince Frederik, their children, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine will join Queen Margrethe along with Frederik’s brother, Prince Joachim, his wife Princess Marie, two of their children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena and Joachim’s son from his first marriage, Count Felix.
Prince Joachim’s son, Count Nikolai, usually joins the rest of the family for Christmas however this year he will remain in Australia where he’s been living for the last few months.
As mentioned before, another tradition is that Crown Princess Mary, along with her husband and her children, travels to Australia almost every year during December to spend time with her own family before Christmas.
A relatively new tradition started by Queen Margrethe continues again in 2023, where the Danish monarch and other members of the royal family feature in a special social media advent calendar which counts down the days to Christmas and gives viewers glimpses into how the royals live during the lead up to Christmas.
The Danish royals are one of the most open royal families when it comes to sharing insights into their Christmas traditions. This year, the Crown Prince Family posted a candid video of themselves decorating their Christmas tree together. How wholesome.
What Princess Mary wore for Christmas in 2022
Princess Mary is very well-known for her impeccable fashion sense, and her Christmas outfits never fail to deliver.
While she celebrated Christmas with her family in Australia in 2022, Princess Mary was seen wearing a glamorous Zimmerman dress in an Instagram post from the Danish royal family.
“Merry Christmas from Down Under – celebrating Christmas in Tasmania 🇦🇺. Here there are neither freezing degrees nor just trees but summer and warm weather,” the caption read.
Obviously, Mary had a warm summer Christmas in 2022, so her frock was super light and flowy.
In 2023, the Crown Princess will return to a white Christmas in Denmark, meaning her Christmas outfit will no doubt feature thicker fabrics and a lot more layers!
