Princess Mary and Prince Frederik proudly escorted their six-year-old twins to their first day of school on Tuesday.
Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, with backpacks firmly strapped onto their little bodies, were pictured ahead of the big day outside their home Amalienborg Palace, in Copenhagen.
Josephine, who has captured the hearts of many with her panache to pull a face at all the wrong moments, was brimming with confidence for the momentous occasion. She donned a light blue dress, which featured an adorable Peter Pan collar, sandals and a vibrant flower in her hair.
Meanwhile, Vincent, whose eyes and nose appeared red and swollen from tears, opted for a blue mandarin collar shirt, green shorts and a sensible pair of pull-on sneakers. His nerves were quickly eased with an affectionate cuddle and pat on the head from his adoring mum.
Princess Mary, who was born in Hobart, Australia chose to wear a floating silk dress in earthy-tones for the occasion. She accented the simple, though elegant look with a tan coloured belt, coordinating high-heeled sandals and simple gold jewellery.
The royal cuties started Grade 0 at Tranegård School in the Hellerup district of the capital city. They join their older siblings Prince Christian, 11, and Princess Isabella, ten, who were the first Danish royal children to attend a public school.
Even though they’re twins — and inseparable! — they won’t be placed in the same class. As their father said, “They’re each other’s best friends but we think they should have other friends too.”
The big day follows the family’s action-packed summer holiday.
Fresh from their sailing adventures on board a luxury yacht around the Greek islands earlier in the month, the royals squeezed in some quality time soaking up the sights and sounds of their motherland.
They visited beaches and museums in the Danish island of Møns Klint and even dropped by the Faaborg Museum.
But for now, it’s back to reality for the beloved family of six!
