Princess Eugenie is set to marry Jack Brooksbank in less than a month, but it turns out the pair had intended to marry a lot sooner than we thought.
However, certain rules resulted in another royal couple pipping Sarah Ferguson’s daughter and her husband-to-be at the post.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank announced their engagement in January 2018.
According to Vanity Fair, Eugenie was hoping to marry as early as last year, but because of her ranking in line to the throne, she was required to wait for another not-so-small royal wedding.
Yep, you guessed it – Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s.
A source told the publication: “There was some talk about a wedding [between Eugenie and Jack] in 2017, but they had to wait for Harry to go first.”
Prince Harry is sixth in line to the throne, while Eugenie is currently ninth in line.
“The feeling among the Yorks is that she deserves her moment in the spotlight and a big royal wedding with all the frills,” the source said.
The soon-to-be husband and wife met in 2010.
Luckily, the awkward situation didn’t garner any hard feelings between the cousins. Eugenie was reportedly happy to wait until October, after Meghan and Harry’s nuptials.
“There are no bad feelings at all… Eugenie is very close to Harry, and she knows how the system works.”

There are expected to be a few similarities between the two big royal weddings of 2018. Eugenie’s will take place in St George’s Chapel in Windsor, just as her cousin’s did.
In addition, Eugenie and Jack are sharing parts of their big day with the public. They will travel out of the castle through the Royal Mews and onto Windsor High Street, where the general public will be able to see them.
This move is similar to Harry and Meghan’s post-ceremony carriage procession, which was followed closely by thousands of onlookers in person, and on television.
There’s no denying Eugenie’s wedding is set to be a lavish affair – it’s estimated to cost AUD $3.6 million.
The biggest investments on the day include catering to over 1000 guests. Furthermore, a luxury marquee alone could amount to over $150,000, while the elusive designer wedding dress could cost up to $360,000. Yikes.
The pair’s wedding it set to be a glamorous affair with a guest list to rival Harry and Meghan’s.
Despite the extravagant affair, no television outlets have confirmed if they will air the wedding, with the BBC reportedly rejecting the rights due to fears it would be a ratings flop.
No matter though, there are reports Eugenie’s wedding will be a two day festival with dodgems, funfair rides and cocktails. Televised or not televised, the bride is definitely going to make the most of her big day!
