Fans were immediately enchanted when Princess Eugenie announced the name of her newborn son, August Brooksbank, over the weekend.
Indeed, the moniker has all the makings of both tradition and modernity – slightly unique, roll-off-the-tongue easy.
And while August certainly isn’t an uncommon name, it looks as though Eugenie has immediately catapulted it to the top of the popular baby names list for 2021.

Early this morning, American actress Mandy Moore announced the arrival of her own little baby son, named August Harrison Goldsmith.
“Gus is here 💙💙💙💙,” she wrote alongside a gorgeous picture of the little baby in a blue onesie.
“He was punctual and arrived right on his due date, much to the delight of his parents. We were prepared to fall in love in all sorts of brand new ways, but it goes beyond anything we could have ever imagined,” she added.
While Mandy’s choice in name likely didn’t come directly from Eugenie’s baby name announcement (or the chances of which are very slim, at least), it’s rather coincidental timing given they both announced the name within days of each other.
Late Saturday evening (Australian time), Princess Eugenie shared the first photos of her own baby son, telling fans: “We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.. 💙💙💙”
She explained that the gorgeous new images had been captured by her midwife, who was visiting them for a routine checkup.

When Duchess Catherine gave birth to each of her three children, the world watched as their names catapulted to the top of the most popular baby name lists for the year.
Indeed, you’ll more than likely know a young Georgie, Charlotte or Louis in your circles – and again, while it may not be a direct inspiration from the royals themselves, the names have risen and lingered at the top of the yearly lists since their births.
Who knows – perhaps the next generation will have a fair few Gus’s to go around
