2018 was a big year for the royal family with two weddings, two babies, one pregnancy announcement and back in January, an engagement.
Hot on the heels of her cousin Prince Harry, Princess Eugenie and her then-fiance Jack Brooksbank announced their engagement at the beginning of last year. To mark a year since that special day, the Queen’s granddaughter has shared a sweet throwback tribute on her Instagram account.
Accompanying a picture of herself and Jack on the day of the big announcement, she captioned the snap, “#tbt to exactly this day last year – Jack and I announced our engagement. What a year it’s been since then and how exciting for 2019.”
Jack proposed to Eugenie during a holiday in Nicaragua, Central America and confessed he went down on one knee to pop the question.
“The lake was so beautiful, it was a special light and I even said ‘this is an incredible moment’ and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we had been together seven years. It was the perfect moment because we knew it was going to end up this way. I was over the moon, crying,” Princess Eugenie told The One Show host Matt Baker in their interview.
The engagement ring, which closely resembles the one Eugenie’s father proposed to her mother Sarah Ferguson with, is rumoured to have cost £7,000 and features sapphires surrounded by a halo of diamonds.
“It was amazing. I found a ring in a jewellers and then proposed to Eugenie without it and came back and we designed the diamonds around this padparadscha sapphire,” Jack said of the engagement ring.
“I went and found an amazing sapphire but then didn’t want to do anything until Eugenie had signed off on it.”

The happy couple met at the popular royal skiing destination Verbier, Switzerland, back in 2010 when the princess was 20 and nightclub manager Jack was 24. It’s been true love ever since.
An official statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed the royal engagement news with both Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson sharing their own messages of congratulations on their respective social media pages.
Though the ninth in line to the throne and her husband-to-be were forced to push back their wedding until after Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s big day, the happy couple became husband and wife in October in a stunning ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
The bride wowed in her backless dress, proudly showing off her scar from her scoliosis surgery while her proud husband kept his glasses on to watch her walk up the aisle.

Since their wedding, it appears that Eugenie and Jack have been settling into married life nicely in Ivy Cottage within Kensington Palace, close to Eugenie’s cousins Prince William and Prince Harry.
Jack Brooksbank also attended his first ever royal Christmas at Sandringham and featured in the Duke of York’s annual Christmas card photo with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
Could we be expecting another royal baby announcement this year? Only time will tell…
