The royal family couldn’t have been more proud when Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank announced they were expecting their first child in September with a sweet picture of a pair of baby booties.
But in a shock move, palace insiders say the 30-year-old has surprised the Queen by hinting she’ll follow in the footsteps of royal breakaways Harry and Meghan and forgo a royal title for their child.
A source told Vanity Fair, “Even if the Queen offered them a title as a gift, it’s not Eugenie or Jack’s desire for their child to have a title.
“Eugenie knows that a title can be a curse as well as a blessing, and she and Jack want their child to live an ordinary life and eventually work to earn a living. Titles really don’t matter to Jack and Eugenie.”
Eugenie and Jack’s baby has been widely discussed in recent months.
In fact, royal baby speculation had been circling the couple with the bookies even going so far as to slash the odds to 1/4 that the Queen’s granddaughter would be announcing her pregnancy this year.
“The odds of Eugenie and Jack sharing some good news soon have taken another plunge, with the latest betting definitely suggesting an announcement is imminent,” a bookmakers.tv spokesperson said ahead of the official news being shared.
In the past, Sarah Ferguson has dropped big hints she was getting into grandmother mode, admitting she’d make an “excellent” granny.
“I used to write children’s books, and I am a child, I haven’t grown up,” the 60-year-old explained during an appearance on UK current affairs program The One Show.
