Our favourite royal christenings

As we wait for pictures of tiny Charlotte on her big day, we look back through our favourite christening portraits.

This Sunday, Duchess Kate and Prince William will celebrate the christening of England’s tiniest new Princess, their daughter, Princess Charlotte.

Charlotte’s christening is set to take place on the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, at the St. Mary Magdalene Church, where William’s mother, Diana, was christened in 1961. But unlike previous royal christenings, Charlotte’s won’t be such a closed off affair.

In a recent statement, proud parents Kate and Wills announced they would be opening up the adjacent paddock to “well-wishers” and locals, so if you fancy a glimpse of royalty – now could be your chance.

The ceremony itself will be private for friends and family. With the Queen and Prince Phillip, Charlotte’s grandfather Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall all in attendance, as well as Kate’s parents Michael and Carole Middleton and her siblings siblings Pippa and James.

The spotlight, however, will be firmly on the Cambridges. The christening will mark the first official appearance of the family of four.

And although he was predicted to be one of the godparents, Prince Harry will unfortunately be out of town on her big day.

This will be Charlotte’s second public outing since her birth at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.

Here, The Weekly takes a look back through some of the cutest royal christenings.

Queen Victoria with her great-grandson, the future King Edward VIII.

Princess Elizabeth (now Queen Elizabeth II) with parents Queen Elizabeth and King George.

And with her own first born, Prince Charles.

And then with her second, Princess Anne.
