After being forced into light duties from isolation after testing positive for COVID-19, sources say the Queenโ€™s family are desperately concerned about her health and doing everything they can to support her.

โ€œCharlotte is aware her Gan-Gan is sick, and sheโ€™s quite concerned,โ€ says an insider.

โ€œSheโ€™s a very sweet-natured little girl and has been painting pictures and asking any adult within earshot to help her bake cupcakes and muffins as a get well present. She makes a terrible mess, but itโ€™s so adorable that no one minds.

โ€œCharlotteโ€™s been talking about wanting to be a nurse when she grows up just like the NHS heroes theyโ€™ve been clapping for in the pandemic. Sheโ€™s been asking to go and help the Queen for days!โ€

Meanwhile the Queenโ€™s illness has meant sheโ€™s had time to stop and take stock of her familyโ€™s future.

โ€œHer Majesty has been consumed for months by how to handle all the recent chaos,โ€ says a palace insider.

โ€œAnd time after time, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have shone as others around them fall.โ€

โ€œAs soon as sheโ€™s able, sheโ€™s invited them to join her for tea to personally express her gratitude โ€“ and reiterate that she thinks theyโ€™ll make a wonderful king and queen when the time comes.โ€

The 95-year-old monarchโ€™s invitation came at the perfect time for her grandson Prince William, 39, with sources telling Womanโ€™s Day heโ€™s โ€œtaken the past few weeks particularly hardโ€.

โ€œItโ€™s like William and Catherine do their very best to carry out work on behalf of the Queen but it doesnโ€™t seem to matter when other family members are so reckless,โ€ says our source.

โ€œHeโ€™s been very stressed by it, but Kate has kept him calm.โ€

Princess Anne to the rescue

With the Queen and Prince Charles calling in sick in the same week, a spotlight was cast firmly on the monarchyโ€™s counsellors of state โ€“ which also includes princes William, Harry and Andrew, as the next adults in line to the throne.

Palace insiders are calling for Harry and Andrew, 62, to be dumped from the core group, which is responsible for conducting official business if the sovereign canโ€™t complete his or her duties.

โ€œWe have Harry in America and Andrew stood down โ€“ they really need to do something about this,โ€ says a source.

โ€œIt makes no sense to have them involved when you have dedicated, tireless Princess Anne right there. They should make an allowance here and promote her.โ€

Meanwhile, Womanโ€™s Day understands Anne, 71, has taken the family dramas into her own hands and personally contacted Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 40, to warn them to back off while her mother is sick.

โ€œHarry and Meghan usually pay no mind to what the family is dealing with, and it makes Anne furious,โ€ says the insider.

โ€œRumour has it sheโ€™s contacted the Sussexes and told them, in no uncertain terms, to lay low while the Queen recovers from COVID, at least.โ€
