They may have had their controversies, but Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco put on a rare loved up display to mark their 11th wedding anniversary.
Taking to Instagram over the weekend, the royal couple, who are also parents to seven-year-old twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, shared a new photo of them taken at the Prince’s Palace in Monte Carlo.
“Happy anniversary ❤️,” the caption simply read.
However, there are some sweet details hidden within the portrait that eagle-eyed royal fans couldn’t help but notice. Keep scrolling to find out more.
That dress!
Dressed in a chic turquoise gown featuring peplum ruffle detailing, Princess Charlene is no doubt a vision in Louis Vuitton.
However, her choice of colour is significant as it takes fans back to what she wore for her and Albert’s civil ceremony back in July 2011.
Bride Charlene famously wore a blue strapless jumpsuit and matching blazer by the late Karl Lagerfeld which was ground-breaking since Grimaldi brides had only ever worn dresses and skirt suits to their civil ceremonies.
“I thought it was a nice change to go for trousers instead of a skirt, especially since I’m an athlete and have always kept my clothes clean and simple,” the former South African swimmer said at the time.
Wedding day jewellery
Charlene’s 11th anniversary outfit wasn’t the only nod to her wedding day.
The Monegasque royal can be seen wearing her pear-cut, three-carat diamond engagement ring reportedly crafted by Parisian jeweller Repossi. It’s especially significant as she only wears her sparkling piece occasionally.
She was also spotted wearing her Tabbah diamond stud earrings – the same pair she wore during her civil ceremony.
Together at last
Whilst last year marked the couple’s milestone 10th wedding anniversary, they were unable to celebrate together.
In 2021, the royal mother-of-two was stranded in her home country of South Africa after contracting a severe ear, nose and throat infection in May.
However to mark 11 years of marriage, the two showed their united front posing hand-in-hand and smiling for the camera.
Though they weren’t physically together, Princess Charlene shared a personal message and video with her social media followers thanking those who have supported her and Albert.
“To all our families, friends and loved ones. Thank you for your love and support, and for the generosity we have received during this decade of our marriage,” she wrote at the time.
“With gratitude, we are able to continue our work through our foundations. Thank you for the anniversary gifts, for your generosity, and trust. With all our love and respect❤️ MERCI.”
