Just a few months ago, Princess Beatrice expected that right now she would be preparing to marry her Italian fiancé, Edoaro Mapelli Mozzi.

But due to the current pandemic, the pair was forced to cancel their wedding and have instead been isolating with their families in the UK, which is subject to strict social distancing laws.

And now Beatrice’s mother Sarah Ferguson, has opened up about how the couple have been spending their time in isolation and how they are coping with the sad news of their cancelled nuptials.

Beatrice and Edoardo’s original wedding date was set for May 29, a week from now.

Edoardo, who has a young son with his ex-fiancée Dara Huang, and Beatrice are not isolating with Sarah, Prince Andrew and Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, but rather have chosen to spend lockdown with Edoardo’s mother.

“It’s sad for me that Beatrice, she was going to get married next week, but they postponed the wedding,” Sarah revealed on her good friend and UK X Factor winner Darlton Harris’ podcast, City Island Podcast.

“Edo and Beatrice have been living with her future mother-in-law, who is lovely. Great friend of mine. But I’m missing my other daughter but it’s just like everybody else, we are just the same family as everybody else.”

However, she added that she had been able to bond with Eugenie over the past few months, along with her husband Jack, as they isolate together at the Royal Lodge.

“During this lockdown period I’ve really loved spending more time with Eugenie and Jack. My daughter got married to Jack in, oh goodness, was it last October? No, it was October before, heavens!

“And so, of course once she’s gone to get married they live away. So, I haven’t seen her so much and so now it’s been a total joy to spend real quality time with her,” she said.

“And, first time in 30 years I even baked a lemon drizzle cake with her, so the first thing is that it’s fantastic,” she added.

Last month, the couple officially cancelled their wedding, as strict lockdown and social distancing rules meant it was impossible for the nuptials to go ahead.

“There are no plans to switch venues or hold a bigger wedding. They aren’t even thinking about their wedding at this time. There will come a time to rearrange, but that’s not yet,” a spokesperson for the couple told PEOPLE magazine.

The 31-year-old bride-to-be and her 37-year-old Italian partner had planned a low-key affair at St James’s Palace in London, followed by a reception at The Queen’s gardens in Buckingham Palace.

Then, they had adjusted their plans and were going to have a quiet private ceremony just with family and friends, with the lavish reception no longer taking place.

But then the whole affair has been scrapped altogether, and “the [wedding] invitations were never actually sent out,” a source told PEOPLE.

Last week, Sarah shared a rare family photo of herself, Andrew, Eugenie and Beatrice on Instagram, in celebration of International Family Day.

“On International Family Day… I am so proud of our united loving family,” Sarah captioned the photo.

She has stood by her former husband Andrew throughout his very public scandal involving the late Jeffrey Epstein, throwing her public support behind the Duke of York.

“He is the best man I know. It’s just incredible what he has done for Britain, and it’s all nonsense, so I talk about familyhood, and I’m very strong about it,” she told Vogue Arabia last December.

The Duchess of York has also been keeping busy in isolation with the launch of her new YouTube channel and initiative Storytime with Fergie and Friends.

As an author of several children’s books herself, Fergie is hosting daily readings of her own, and other children’s books on her YouTube and Facebook channels.

“I’ll be reading both my own stories and others and asking friends to join in. It’s all free and just for fun. There will be a new story posted every weekday at 4pm and a longer storytime on Saturdays,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I so hope you enjoy them and they give some of you something new to do during this difficult time for everyone.”
