It was just another Wednesday at the John Henry Newman School in Stevenage, that was until the future king of England paid a visit.

Prince William surprised students at the Roman Catholic school and sent Twitter into meltdown when he stopped by for lunch.

The 33-year-old was working with the East Anglian Air Ambulance when he decided to land the helicopter on the school’s sport field for a lunch break with his team.

The royal visit was hilariously documented by students on Twitter.

“I literally have no clue why Prince William would want to come to JHN and have lunch but he did,” one teen wrote.

Another student commented, “When you walk into your dining room to find Prince William having a spot of lunch! #what”

Head teacher Clive Matthew said the Prince’s visit was “completely unexpected”.

“He was great. He queued up with the children, he got himself some lunch and sat down. Then he was surrounded by a group of Year 11 boys who had a chat with him – it was really lovely,” Clive added.

A girl who missed out on seeing Wills was notified via text by her friend, who wrote, “So the day you don’t come in Prince William lands a helicopter on the field and cannelloni [is] on the menu for lunch.”

Gutted by the news, the girl tweeted a screengrab of the text and added, “Not quite sure which I’m more upset about, Prince William or the cannelloni :((“
