It seems Meghan Markle has the full backing of the British Royal Family, including her boyfriend’s older brother.
Over the weekend, Prince William released a statement to the UK’s Telegraph echoing Prince Harry’s recent plea for Meghan’s privacy to be respected.
“The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him,” the short statement read.
It’s believed Prince William broke his silence over his brother’s love life in response to a report from The Daily Mail, which claimed the father-of-two thought Prince Harry’s passionate and groundbreaking statement was “hot-headed” and ill thought out.
“He thinks Harry made a mistake in confirming the relationship and releasing such an emotional statement so soon [into it],” a palace insider alleged to The Mail.
“He feels that the statement offered up too much information and only served to fuel speculation about how serious Harry is about Meghan. It could also put him in a difficult position in the future regardless of whether the relationship leads to something or not.”
“William knows that his brother can be hot-headed and understands that it is something he felt very strongly about.”
“Privately, he shares a lot of the sentiments he and Meghan expressed as, make no mistake, she was very involved in the statement too. But he believes it was wrong to make his feelings so public,” the source added.
Since going public with their romance, Prince Harry has embarked on a royal tour of the Caribbean while Meghan has just wrapped filming for season six of Suits. Once Harry returns from his tour, it’s believed the couple will spend their first Christmas together.
