Prince William is on the brink of facing his biggest test to date as the future King of England – and it’s filled with uncertainty.

The 37-year-old prince is likely to step up and take over some of the duties usually only undertaken by the Queen in the coming weeks and months as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect thousands of people across the globe.

According to royal expert Nigel Cawthorne, who penned a book about Diana called Call Me Diana: Princess Diana on Herself, the prince will likely become the main physical presence for the British Monarchy while the Queen and first in line to the throne Prince Charles continue to socially isolate for their own safety.

“There has to be a physical presence to the monarchy, not just a virtual one. He’s third-in-line to the throne and in robust health like his brother, and COVID-19 is unlikely to be any serious threat for him or his wife or children. He will do a great job,” the biographer told the Daily Mail.

In addition to this, the seriousness of the current global situation might even draw Prince Harry back into his royal role as he and Wills help to maintain the British institution while the situation continues to evolve.

The virus is known to be risker to elderly people, particularly those over 70 as they have weaker immune systems compared to younger people.

With that said, at 93-years-old and 71-years-old respectively, it makes sense for the Palace to ensure the Queen and Prince Charles step back for now and isolate themselves to avoid being exposed to the virus.

“I am sure he would come back and be delighted to help out, too, and do anything to protect his father and grandmother,” the royal expert added.

The news comes after the Queen shared a poignant message in support for the world during this unsettling period.

Confirming that she and Philip had now arrived at Windsor, where it is expected they will remain in isolation for the time being, Her Majesty wrote: “At times such as these, I am reminded that our nation’s history has been forged by people and communities coming together to work as one, concentrating our combined efforts with a focus on the common goal.”

She continued: “We are enormously thankful for the expertise and commitment of our scientists, medical practitioners and emergency and public services; but now more than any time in our recent past, we all have a vitally important part to play as individuals – today and in the coming days, weeks and months.”

She ended with an empowering message, writing: “Many of us will need to find new ways of staying in touch with each other and making sure that loved ones are safe. I am certain we are up to that challenge. You can be assured that my family and I stand ready to play our part.”

In an interesting move, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan shared the Queen’s message on their own Instagram page, Sussex Royal.

The pair had formally wrapped up their final royal duties in early March, with the intention to commence their official transition into a financially independent life set to begin on March 31.

Despite this, Harry and Meghan shared the note from the Queen, suggesting that they fully intend to continue having close ties with the royal family.

As pointed out by the Queen, this time is undoubtedly uncertain for millions of people across the world – and the royal family are no different.

Now more than ever is the time to band together and support one another – and Harry and Meghan’s small show of support is case in point.
