Prince William and Duchess Kate, who recently announced that they’re expecting their third child together, have been gifted a little something for their unborn child.

The Duke of Cambridge dropped by the Spitalfields Crypt Trust on September 19, where he was presented with three wooden owls for each of his children— one for son Prince George, four, another for daughter Princess Charlotte, two, and a third for his impending prince or princess.

And there’s a beautiful story behind the gift…

The pieces were made by various students at the ‘Restoration Station,’ just one cog in the charity and social enterprise which provides practical help, support and training to people who have been homeless and suffering from addiction, poverty or social isolation.

The 35-year-old royal described the abstract carvings as “very nice,” and was sure to thank all those involved in their creation.

During the engagement, the prince spoke with recovering addicts about how the charity has helped to change their lives.

The Duke sampled some coffee from ‘Paper and Cup’, a coffee-bookshop, and was shown some of the impressive projects at the ‘Restoration Station.’

Speaking with Hello!, SCT’s Director of Services Sheona Alexander said: “We thought it would be nice to give three owls, so a) there was no fighting amongst the kids! And b) it follows a whole story for someone from the very start of their journey to then becoming a trainee within Restoration Station.”

During the visit, the proud dad joked with Grace Gunn — a trainee midwife and former addict.

“All the best with the midwifery,” he said, adding: “I may see you sooner than you think!”

Sadly, Duchess Kate was too under the weather with severe morning sickness to attend the important visit.

“It’s very good news,” he said at a National Mental Health and Policing Conference in Oxford, England. “We need Catherine to get over this first bit and then we can start celebrating. It’s always a bit anxious to start with, but she’s well.”

He later added: “There’s not much sleep going on at the moment.”

Congratulations again to the soon-to-be family-of-five!
