Prince William and Duchess Catherine have attended their first formal engagement in the wake of Prince Philip’s death – and together, they paid tribute to him in the sweetest way.
Visiting the Air Training Corps in East London on Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess would have made Philip proud – not least because of the link this place shared with him.
Stepping out together, William and Kate chatted to personnel on the ground of the East London barracks on Wednesday – the very place is special to Philip, who served as Air Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Training Corps for 63 years.
The particular site Wills and Kate visited was one where young cadets can skill-up and gain qualifications across a number of different industries, including aviation, first aid and even space.
For the event, Duchess Catherine wore a beautiful black coat by Dolce & Gabbana – remaining in the official colour of mourning.
It featured large gold buttons and fell to her knees. The Duchess accessorised the look with pearl earrings and her hair was left in loose waves.
While it was lovely to see the pair out and about, there was a sombre element to the event.
Passionate as he was about the air cadets, Philip slowly moved away from his former role and in 2015 and he passed his military patronage over to Kate, who became Honorary Air Commandant.
With that in mind, the pair’s visit on Wednesday was a lovely way to honour Philip’s legacy.
The Queen also celebrated her 95th birthday quietly on Wednesday, no doubt with several family members by her side.
It was earlier reported her children had drawn up a visiting rota, as each could spend time with their mother within the COVID-19 restrictions at Windsor Castle.
And in other ways, the likes of William and Kate are showing their support for the Queen – the beautiful tribute and connection to Philip in their latest engagement was testament to that.
