Say it ain’t so! Are Prince William and Duchess Catherine horrible bosses?

The couple have been rocked with one of their most trusted maid's resignations but former staffers say they're "wonderful" to work for.

While we’d like to think working for the British Royal Family would be a dream gig filled with tasks like keeping Prince George entertained and helping Kate pick which tiara to wear, according to shock reports out of the UK it’s far from a walk in the park.

In fact, it’s reportedly become so overwhelming for one of Prince William and Duchess Catherine’s top housekeepers that she’s handed in her notice to the royal couple.

Over the weekend, insiders told UK’s The Sun that maid Sadie Rice has sensationally quit her £35,000 (around $AUS60,312) job at the couple’s Anmer Hall estate because she is “overworked.”

“Sadie’s a hard worker but the job’s demands got too much, even for her,” the insider explained to the publication.

“They wanted her to spend more time at Kensington Palace and her work was increasing all the time.”

“She wasn’t having a normal life outside work. Sadie’s serving her notice and it seems nothing will change her mind. It’s their loss.”

According to the report, Sadie was a hit with Prince George and Princess Charlotte and will be missed by the siblings.

“They will regret losing Sadie as the right people aren’t easy to find.”

Insiders claim the Cambridges’ maid wasn’t “having a normal life outside work.”

Indeed, in the coming months the Cambridges are set to move to Kensington Palace in London full-time but it appears Sadie won’t be relocating with them.

“Sadie’s a hard worker but the job’s demands got too much, even for her. They wanted her to spend more time at Kensington Palace and her work was increasing all the time,” the source added.

It’s believed the 35-year-old worked for the family for two years and was responsible for grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and laundry at their 10-bedroom residence in Norfolk.

The accomplished maid has previously worked for the King of Norway and Queen Elizabeth.

Royal sources say Sadie’s mind is made up and she’s handed in her notice.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace refused to address the reports, explaining: “We cannot comment on the Duke and Duchess’s private staff.”

This marks the second resignation the Cambridges have received after Duchess Catherine’s private secretary of for five years, Rebecca Deacon, stepped down in March.

When we caught up with former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked for several royal family members over the years, he had nothing but praise for his experience.

“It is the protocol to be guarded and formal. But they are wonderful and such a great sense of humour,” he told us last year.

“Off duty they are so friendly.”
