We can’t get enough of Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik’s adorable family, but there are some other Danish royals that catch our eye from time to time.
Prince Nikolai, who is Mary and Frederik’s nephew, has officially entered his 20s and to mark the special birthday, the Palace have released three new photos of the dashing royal.
Dressed in a smart green jumper, the 20-year-old prince smiles at the camera in three photos taken by photographer Steen Brogaard.
The Danish Royal Family’s Instagram account captioned the photos, “Today is His Highness Prince Nikolai’s 20th birthday, and on the occasion of the round, new pictures of the Prince have been taken.”
And we must say, he takes after the dashing men in his family.
Prince Nikolai was inundated with birthday wishes in both Danish and English on the Det Danske Kongehus Instagram page.
“My goodness what a very handsome young prince.Happy Birthday,” one fan penned.
Another enthusiastic follower write, “OMG, HAPPY HANDSOME BIRTHDAY YOUR ROYAL HIGHNESS.”
Nikolai is the son of Prince Joachim and his first wife Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg and the eldest grandson of Queen Margrethe. He is the seventh in line to the Danish crown.
And if you think the young prince is a natural in front of the camera, you’re not wrong. Prince Nikolai made his “official” modelling debut in February last year at London Fashion Week Burberry show as well as the Dior show at Paris Fashion Week.
He also walked in the Dior Pre-Fall 2019 Men’s Collection show in November 2018 in Tokyo. What a fashionista!
He may be skilled on the runway but in an interview with Danish magazine Tæt på, Nikolai admitted, “I do not want a career as a model. I’d rather look at it as a job, which can help me along the way while educating me.”
As the prince isn’t a senior royal, he faces less responsibility than Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary‘s children.
In 2017, his father Prince Joachim spoke to Billed Bladet said, “He should not be forced into something. Nikolai’s future shall be conducted entirely by his own plan.”

Nikolai’s family celebrated an exciting new addition to the family in August when Prince Joachim and Princess Marie got a new dog named Cerise that the official Instagram described as a “bichon frieze of Danish descent.”
The royal account went on to explain that Cerise means ‘cherry’ in Danish, and the royal family have a tradition of naming their dogs after fruit (their last dog was called Apple).
